I provide three levels of editing services — proofreading, copyediting, and comprehensive editing. Each level builds upon the previous one. In addition, I offer a formatting service.
Proofreading

Rates
My editing rates are based on level of editing and word count. This approach accounts for different layouts and fonts, as well as allows me to provide an upfront cost. Formatting rates are based on word count only.
To generate the word count for a document in Word, select Tools | Word Count. Then refer to the Editorial Freelancers Association rate per word column to calculate an estimate.
Files
I edit using Microsoft Word. Edits are keyed directly into the Word files using the Track Changes and Comments features. Each change can then be accepted or rejected using the Review toolbar.
Symbols
Symbols, equations, and reactions can cause issues. Add-ins for Word will export symbolic information as metafiles. In these cases, I can email a sample edit to you to verify that the symbolic information is not affected.
